Anotace knihy

"My War" is the Odyssey of "Jack" a newly commissioned, nineteen year old Navy Ensign, whose college education is interrupted by US entry into World War II. His adventures and misadventures follow him through inadequate training to the invasion beaches of southern France, and then to the Pacific, serving as Officer-in-Charge of an LCT (Landing Craft Tank). Ship collisions, near misses and an island romance in Hawaii tell an entertaining tale of life at sea and ashore in the Navy's amphibious forces. Although comic in its tone, "My War" depicts the struggles of a boy, barely out of his teens, given command of 130 foot ship and a crew that includes hardened trouble makers. He emerges from these experiences far short of hero status, but proud of his small part on the right side of the greatest conflict in world history.
