What are the veiled faces in the black and white photos hiding? Is it the shadow of one's past or is it the expressions of one's deepest feelings? In those three-dimensional reflections, was it the feeling of self-consciousness that was etched in those faces? ... The novella, The Life Over Yonder, is his third book. Shayan Afshar was born in Iran, in the western town of Urmia. He completed his doctorate in Persian Literature at the University of California at Berkeley. He has taught at the Universities of Michigan and California. His previous works are a collection of poetry, Windows Facing Street of Cities and the comprehensive Lexicon of Persian Infinities in which verbs are categorized based on infinitival endings and their roots from Old Iranian and Middle Persian languages. Presently, he lives in Los Angeles and is completing a philological study on the Persian Book of Kings.
