The term Post-colonial has come into existence only during the end of the twentieth century. Substituting older terms like Commonwealth and Third World, it has not only extended the area of study but also more aptly encapsulated the overall mood and experience of the concurrent period termed as post-colonial . Post-colonial, ironically, and in spite of the prefix post , is retrospective, and suggestive of continuity with the colonial past.
