A History of Hail Suppression in Serbia provides a historical survey of hail suppression efforts in Serbia. The specific date when preventative measures against hail-bearing clouds were first implemented cannot be ascertained precisely. Various historical magical-ritual actions, intended to prevent and/or decrease the occurrence of hail, were infrequently recorded. Over time, these preventative measures in the fight against hail-bearing clouds increased and shifted towards scientifically tangible, varied, and objectively effective systems and weapons. Over the last century and a half, growing in parallel with the development of state meteorological services all over the world, hail suppression has become one of the most important tasks for the meteorological service in Serbia. This has led to an impressive, well-developed system of hail suppression that has been expanded in recent decades.
