He began to work as a dramatist and writer under the name of Emil Bernhard. His plays were performes in German cities and in the USA and his books - histories and short stories - were published in both German and English. 1936 he fled to Holland and finally to the USA. /Emil Cohn (1881-1948), seit 1906 Rabbiner in Berlin, verlor jedoch sein Amt wenig später wegen zionistischer Aktivitäten. Erst 1925 kehrte er wieder nach Berlin zurück und war Rabbiner an der Synagoge in Grunewald. Daneben wurde er unter dem Namen Emil Bernhard als Bühnenautor und Schriftsteller bekannt. Seine Theaterstücke wurden in Deutschland und den USA aufgeführt. 1936 floh er in die Niederlande und schließlich 1939 in die USA.
