Although the history of crustal growth can be traced back to at least 3.8Ga, the record is incomplete and several issues regarding its structure, material properties and evolution remain partially resolved. South Indian shield is a conglomerate of several crustal blocks formed due to the geodynamic processes that operated during Archean to Neo-proterozoic age and provide an ideal geological lab to validate models of crustal evolution and accretion. The primary goal of the work is to understand the nature of the crustal fabrics of different geological units of South India and the tectonic processes responsible for such a fabric by studying the shear wave velocity structure and percentage of S-anisotropy in the crust.
