Neben dem Kurzführer erscheint zur 8. Berlin Biennale für zeitgenössische Kunst auch die Publikation Excursus. Im Kontrast zu einem klassischen Ausstellungskatalog versteht sich dieses Bilderbuch als ein zusätzlicher Ausstellungsort der 8. Berlin Biennale. Alle teilnehmenden KünstlerInnen wurden eingeladen, visuelle Vorschläge für Excursus einzureichen. Für jeden dieser künstlerischen Originalbeiträge sind jeweils vier Buchseiten vorgesehen, die mit individuellen Gestaltungsansätzen gefüllt werden können. Die Kompilation suggeriert einen Spaziergang durch die für die 8. Berlin Biennale wichtigen Konzepte. Gleichzeitig führt das Buch über die unmittelbare Sphäre der Ausstellung hinaus, da es auch nach Ende der 8. Berlin Biennale weiter fortbesteht. Inhaltlich hinterfragt Excursus vor allem die politische und ästhetische Kraft und Autonomie der Bilder.In addition to the 8th Berlin Biennale for Contemporary Art Guidebook, the publication Excursus is released. In contrast to a classical exhibition catalogue, the aim of this exclusively image-based publication is to function as a surplus venue of the 8th Berlin Biennale. Each participating artist was invited to submit an original visual proposal covering up to four pages with various format options. Excursus creates a space that can travel and thus reaches beyond the immediate domain of the 8th Berlin Biennale as it is staged in the city of Berlin. Lasting beyond the duration of the exhibition as such, this compilation suggests a walk through the ideas traversing and intersecting the 8th Berlin Biennale while questioning the political and aesthetic force and autonomy of images.
