L-glutamin-(asparagin-)ase is an amidohydrolase enzyme that catalyzes the hydrolysis of L- asparagine (L-asn) and L-glutamine(L-gln) to L-aspartate (L-asp) and L-glutamate(L- glu), respectively and releases ammonia (NH3) as well.The activity of L-glutamin-(industrial purposes. As a case in point, it can be used in the production of special chemicals, like thiamine and glutamine or acts as a biosensor for monitoring the level of L-glutamine . Clinically, decreasing the level of asparagine and/or glutamine by the administration of bacterial asparaginase and/or glutaminase or by using their antagonists is considered the common therapy for patients with acute lymphocytic leukaemia. In contrast, supplementation with asparagine and glutamine promotes a more malignant and less di erentiated phenotype in human colon cancer cell lines
