Anotace knihy

"This is a wonderful publication, full of Georgy Pryakhin's personal recollections of a lifetime spent not only as one of the most revered Russian writers but as a political supremo in the inner circle of the Gorbachev government during the last years of the USSR. It will enchant readers with a thirst to learn more of the inner workings of those who lived through the USSR, Glasnost and Perestroika. Pryakhin's vivid recollections of real events, idealistic dreams and his way of seeing life, tell stories that go much deeper than the words printed on the page. Born in 1947 to mixed Uzbek and Russian parents exiled and killed by Stalin's brutal regime, he grew up in a Stalin orphanage to see the very worst of life in Russia and its internal conflicts, which moulded his desire to tell the world through his writing about what he had seen, heard and felt, which he later translated into how he could help others through working in politics to change the life of Russians for the better, forever. Pryakhin's stories, told in the present tense, give the reader every feeling of what it was like to be there at this most important of times in Russia's recent history and are a rare insight into the workings and machinations of life at the top during colossal societal changes. I am delighted to be able to introduce and recommend this worthy publication." - Nick Rowan, Editor-in-Chief, Open Central Asia and Eurasia Magazine
