Set in southwest England between 1792 and 1797, the novel opens with the death of wealthy Mr Henry Dashwood. The two sisters move to new homes where they experience love and disappointment when they are later abandoned by the young men whom they intended to marry.Published in 1811, Sense and Sensibility is a reflection of upper and middle-class English society in the early 19th century, and juxtaposes two different ways of thinking - sense and sensibility.
