Britain in the near future is recovering from the effects of a nuclear bomb dropped in error by Russia over Kent five years previously during a brief World War III. The country is bankrupt and the unity government under conservative Prime Minister Richard Askew collapses. In the run up to elections which the far right-wing New Britain party under John Atkins may win, ex-Met police officer, now private investigator, Alex McIntyre takes on a fateful commission during which he thinks he overhears the murder of a woman in Belgravia. But if he contacts the police he may well be arrested as the prime suspect. It is a race against time to discover and expose the real murderer before a conspiracy at the highest levels eliminates him, his daughter and friends. The only clue is a blood-stained piece of paper taken from the dead woman's hand. It bears the title Project Aurora, a plan to establish a dictatorship in the UK. Hunted by the police and the enforcement agency, he decides to escape to the exclusion zone where the bomb exploded. But where does he go from here? And who has the power to finally bring the culprit to justice?
