Anotace knihy

DESCRIPTION:Artist Arne Quinzeżs installation, My Secret Garden, encourages visitors to explore their own mental place where they keep their most personal thoughts, memories, desires and secrets. My Secret Garden is complementary to his other work, Rock Strangers, on the coastline in Ostend, which is a public confrontation with alienation in the centre of the city. Quinze invited Belgian author Saskia de Coster to capture the alienation which the Rock Strangers exude, as well as the intimacy of My Secret Garden (exhibited at Kunsthal Rotterdam) in contemporary stories and distinctive film footage as the projects were running at the same time. The documentaries are explorations of both projects, through interviews about Quinzeżs work, unique footage of the making of the installations and żuncannyż performances. The outcome is a quest for the traces of these works in each and every one of us.The complete box contains two book publications, two documentaries (DVDs) in four languages: Dutch, French, English and German.SELLING POINTS:żIncludes two documentaries on DVD with soundscapes especially composed by electronic music duo Vive la FęteżWritten in four languages: Dutch, French, English and GermanżShows details of how two large installations/exhibitions of Arne Quinze were realised: the artist at workżIncludes short stories written by author Saskia de Coster, complementing Quinzeżs art workżPhotos of Quinzeżs previous art work are also shownżBeautifully packaged in a cardboard slipcaseABOUT ARNE QUINZE:Arne Quinze was born in 1971 in Belgium and lives and works in Sint-Martens-Latem, Belgium. In the eighties he began working as a graffiti artist but he never finished an official art education. Quinze creates large and small sculptures, drawings, paintings, and large-scale installations. Smaller works, sketches, and drawings are the basis and research for his large installations. Recurring fundamentals in his oeuvre are the use of multiple types of wood, including salvaged wood; electrical colours in fluorescent paint; and themes referring to social interaction, communication, and urbanism. Since a while heżs doing research towards large steel installations. What drives Quinze is the belief in the possible realisation of an idealistic society where all individuals communicate and interact. In his work, communal activities flourish and social cohesion is the norm: Quinze tries to evoke communication and human interaction. His installations are built to provoke reaction and to intervene in the daily life of passersby confronted with his sculptures. His unconventional public installations have challenged perceptions in the city centers of Belgium (Cityscape, The Sequence), Germany (The Traveller), France (Camille, Rock Strangers), Lebanon (The Visitor), China (Red Beacon) and the USA (Uchronia, Timegate), among others.
