Anotace knihy

Combining cross-cultural historical research with methods from futures studies, the authors offer a unique and clarifying understanding of what technology especially communication technology is and what the interactive roles of human agency and communication technologies are in influencing social and environmental stability and change, especially in regard to power relations in societies in the past, present, and futures. They examine the interrelationship between humans, their communication technologies and political power from the very beginning (the emergence of human speech and language) though the Internet and social media and in four alternative futures. Additionally, we explore the relation between communication technologies and power relations using an experiential gaming platform and discuss the results of the research.
