Lyubomir Levchev has long been recognized internationally as the leading poet of Bulgaria. Having been a writer under Communism, and having survived to tell his story. Levchev has a unique and valuable perspective on the human condition in times of struggle. He has published over one hundred books around the world and won numerous awards, including the Pushkin Award for Poetry. The poems in this selection offer a wide range of emotional content, from sorrow to humor. They rely on strong imagery and a metaphorical content reminiscent of John Donne and Robert Lowell. These translations are all new and reflect a collaborative effort between Levchev and Jack Harte, founder of the Irish Writers' Union and Irish Writers' Centre. The Poetry Europe Series.
