The volatility of prices of agricultural inputs have negatively affected the economic feasibility of agricultural activities in rural areas in the South, pushing peasants to quit their lands and migrate to big cities or abroad. Therefore, the necessity emerges to transcend the cash crop model of perception of the agricultural resource. In this book the new vision of whole resource use is illustrated giving different examples. An integrated approach is suggested for the industrialization of the rural areas to realize the objective of endogenous sustainable development, as well as a high added value along the value chain, from the field to the market, including selection of industrial projects, their spatial distribution and appropriate technology.
