In 1957 Alexander Todd was awarded the Nobel Prize for Chemistry. From 1963 to 1965 he was President of the International Union of Pure and Applied Chemistry. For five years he was President of the Royal Society. He made major contributions to the advancement of science education in Britain, and in the University of Cambridge.
