Wages in China have been thrust into the limelight of popular discussion following rising concerns about numerous labor issues surrounding China's economic growth in the past few decades. As China struggles to establish a mature system for protecting its workers, the simultaneous process of economic transformation and trade liberalization makes the balancing act of ensuring both enterprise growth and fair labor remuneration even tougher, as evinced by the rise in occurrence of serious labor-capital disputes in recent years. Wages in China: An Economic Analysis, the result of a three-year research project supported by China's National Natural Science Fund, looks to explore the economics behind the country's current wage situation, examining topics in wage determination, wage disparity, wage clubs, and labor share, in order to attempt a fair objective assessment of the situation and sketch the direction for future labor policies. Volume 3 explores the changing trends of wages in China during the past few decades, as developments on local, national, and global levels have created a new economic structure in which macroeconomic factors play an increasingly significant role affecting the country's labor market. Issues discussed include the formation of wage clubs in China's industries, wage spillovers between China's public and private sectors, and the relationship between economic development, globalization, and labor share.
