Anotace knihy

Excerpt from The Rochesterian, Vol. 2: Selected Writings In the year I780 there was a parliamentary election in Bristol, then the second city in England; and Edmund Burke, who had been its representative for six years, came forward as a candidate for re-election. The address which he made on that occasion has always had a strange fascination for me, though it is not his masterpiece. Martineau described it as the noblest Speech. Ever addressed to an English audience, and Romilly alluded to it as perhaps the finest piece of oratory in our language. To me it seems something like the gospel of conscientious conviction in contest with popular passion. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
