The development of new media and communication technologies has brought about an expansion of media services. This has created a new occupational field which can be labelled "content provision". Content providers come from multiple occupational contexts and often have no background in journalism although they have to do editing work. They also have to have knowledge across the media, technological know-how and a good grounding in business studies. Against this background, the study examines the kind of knowledge and skills that those media workers need to acquire who are concerned with content provision. Where are these necessary qualifications already taught today and where is there a need to adapt? On the basis of case studies, interviews and workshops this study will give answers and make recommendations for an amendment concerning first and further education in the media industry.
