The economic crisis of 2008 and its aftermath altered the lives of millions of people across the globe in a profound way. Although we are on a path to recovery, the rate of growth has been less than satisfactory. The unemployment rate in the United States, which was around 10% in the initial year of the crisis has been steady between six and seven percent in recent years. The fate of those 50 and older, especially those who have been out of work for over six months, does not look promising. Many people have lost their homes. Who is listening to the cries of the jobless and homeless? In Recovering from the Recovery: A Recipe for Survival, CPA Anil Bhatt takes us off the beaten path to look for new ways for economic recovery. "As a civilized society, it is our social and moral obligation to bring sustainable recovery to all the segments of the world population," he says. Instead of applying old theories and expecting them to work in new circumstances, we must nurture fresh ideas, appreciate and learn from the natural forces surrounding us and shift our focus outward to preserve our social and moral values. When our next recovery arrives it must not merely become some statistic for the record books, but must truly be the testimony to our joint efforts in building a sustainable world for everyone.
