Anotace knihy

Excerpt from Missionary Addresses Thus it is written, that the Christ should suffer, and rise again from the dead the third day; and that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in his name unto all the nations. - Luke xxiv. 46, 47. It is too light a thing that thou shouldest be my servant to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and to restore the preserved of Israel: I will also give thee for a light to the Gentiles, that thou mayest be my salvation unto the end of the earth. - Isa. xlix. 6. Our risen Lord gave one command, and only one, to his disciples. That command is found in five different forms. The work he commanded them to do was the work of evangelizing the world. They were not to convert every soul from the error of his way, but they were to preach the gospel to all men every where. The subject before us at this time is, The Supreme Mission of the Church. I. Let us see how that mission is set forth in the different forms in which the last command of our Lord is recorded. The Commission as given by Matthew reads: "All authority hath been given unto me in heaven and on earth. Go ye therefore, and make disciples of all the nations, baptizing them into the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit: teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you." This is the use he makes of the authority which had been given to him. He sends the men whom he had chosen and trained to make disciples of all the nations. The Commission as given by Mark reads: "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to the whole creation."
