John Erskine of Carnock, 1683-1687 His lordship proved himself not ungrateful to the King, from whom he had received these formal securities, by protesting against the demand of the English army for delivery of his Majesty's person at Newcastle in 1646; and by joining in the 'engagement' of 1648 in the royal interest. For this latter venture he was fined to the extent of a thousand pounds and debarred from sitting in the parliament of 1649.
