Frequency bands currently used for mobile communications are densely occupied with channels optimized in terms of spectral efficiency. To provide new broadband wireless services new frequency bands have to be considered. Millimeter wave wireless links have the potential to open new ways for broadband wireless access by a large available bandwidth and high spatial efficiency. This book includes the analysis of such links based on optical carrier generation, signal processing and fiber optic access. Basic design issues are discussed. A detailed theoretical analysis of both, the fiber optic link as well as the wireless millimeter wave transmission is provided. Several approaches for coherent optical multi carrier generation are evaluated theoretically and experimentally in terms of obtained frequency separation and coherence. Additionally, quasi-optic approaches for millimeter wave demultiplexing are presented. System experiments are shown for multi Gbps signals in the W-band using OOK, QPSK and 16QAM.
